News | Probabilmente niente piú modding sui Samsung con la nuova suite Knox

I dipositivi Samsung sono ormai noti sia per le loro avanzate feature, che per la grande mole di developer che li segue nel mondo del modding.

Ma ultimamente, per loro(e nostra) sfortuna, il produttore ha apportato modifiche alla suite di sicurezza Knox.

In pratica il modulo SeLinux é stato rafforzato, e quando gli viene presentato qualsiasi tentativo di forzamento, esso verrá bloccato.

Il famosissimo sviluppatore Chainfire, tra l’altro famoso per SuperSu, ha pubblicato quanto segue sul proprio profilo Google+:

Bad news everyone! I’ve been hearing more from people in places associated with Samsung, and it is becoming more likely that this KNOX status is indeed an eFuse. Imight talk to some Samsung guys myself this weekend, if there’s anything interesting about that, I’ll let you know.

Worse than that, I’ve also been hearing that service center instructions are indeed that devices with this status tripped will not receive any warranty repairs. (Of course, the action they take may still depend on the service center). Their excuse is that the hardware is damaged by the owner. Seems Samsung is catching up in scumbaggery to HTC, who years ago attributed my HTC Diamond’s screen damage (digitizer detached) to the installation of HSPL

To anyone in the know it is obvious that this doesn’t really fly, and the eFuse blowing (is this the hardware damage?) is intentionally done by the bootloader when unsigned software is loaded. One could even argue against the legality of that under EU regulations.

As I’ve stated before, my dev version of Triangle Away is currently operational (though not yet released) for the flash counter and binary status with the new Knox I9505 ROMs.

If you have an I9505 you’ve probably noticed the new Knox Warranty status in the bootloader, and I know some of you are hoping Triangle Away will reset that.

Unfortunately, that’s unlikely. I’ve taken a look around, I’ve disassembled the bootloader, etc, and it looks like an efuse might be involved ( == not resetable ). I’m not exactly sure what triggers it yet either.

Mind you, I’m not a bootloader expert nor have I spent hours and hours digging through it, so there’s a chance this information might turn out to be wrong later – but that’s what it currently looks like to me.

Come potete capire, lo sviluppatore sta lavorando all’applicativo Triangle Away, che ha l’intento di azzerare il counter sui dispositivi Samsung con bootloader modificato.

Comunque sembra che lui abbia disassemblato ed analizzato il bootloader, e sembra che non sia possibile resettare il counter, ma ha comunque messo le mani avanti, non essendo un esperto nel settore e non avendo nemmeno speso ore nell’analizzarlo.

Ovviamente resta che il modding sul dispositivo é sempre possibile, ma a questo punto a discapito del consumatore, poiché inviando un dispositivo con bootloader sbloccato in assistenza, se scoperto, potrebbere essere inviato indietro senza nessuna riparazione, poiché questi ultimi sono giá stati avvisati di non adoperare nessun lavoro su dispositivi del genere.
